Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What supplies do I need to start making soy candles?

A. Start simple! You only need a few basics: soy wax, wicks, fragrance oils, jars, wick stickers, warning labels, pouring pot(s), digital scale and a thermometer. As you grow, you can invest in more oils, a presto pot or wax melter, etc. — but don’t overbuy in the beginning.

Q. What’s the best wax for beginners?

A. There is no right or wrong answer. A popular choice for new makers is Golden Brands 464, a 100% soy wax option. There are many options. Think about who your ideal customer is and your brand values.

Q: How much fragrance oil should I add to soy wax?

A:Most soy waxes perform best between 6%–10% fragrance load, but always check your wax supplier’s guidelines.

Q: Do I need insurance to sell candles?

A:Yes — once you start selling or gifting, you should have product liability insurance. It gives you peace of mind knowing you’re protected.
